FunctionThe biological conversion of cellulose to glucose generally requires three types of hydrolytic enzymes: (1) endoglucanases which cut internal beta-1,4-glucosidic bonds; (2) exocellobiohydrolases that cut the dissaccharide cellobiose from the nonreducing end of the cellulose polymer chain; (3) beta-1,4-glucosidases which hydrolyze the cellobiose and other short cello-oligosaccharides to glucose [catalytic activity:endohydrolysis of 1,4-beta-D-glucosidic linkages in cellulose].
ProductProbable cellulase CelA2b (endo-1,4-beta-glucanase) (endoglucanase) (carboxymethyl cellulase)
CommentsRv1090, (MTV017.43), len: 151 aa. Probable celA2b, second part of cellulase (endoglucanase), similar to C-terminus of others e.g. O08468 cellulase CEL2 from Streptomyces halstedi (377 aa), FASTA scores: opt: 554, E(): 1.2e-30, (52.0% identity in 152 aa overlap); etc. Gene appears to have been inactivated by frameshift mutations but no errors could be found that would account for this. This region is a possible MT-complex-specific genomic island (See Becq et al., 2007).
Functional categoryIntermediary metabolism and respiration
TranscriptomicsmRNA detected by RT-PCR (See Mba Medie et al., 2010).
MutantNon-essential gene for in vitro growth of H37Rv in a MtbYM rich medium, by Himar1 transposon mutagenesis (see Minato et al. 2019). Non-essential gene for in vitro growth of H37Rv, by analysis of saturated Himar1 transposon libraries (see DeJesus et al. 2017). Non essential gene by Himar1 transposon mutagenesis in H37Rv strain (see Sassetti et al., 2003). Non-essential gene for in vitro growth of H37Rv, by Himar1 transposon mutagenesis (See Griffin et al., 2011).
